One of my favourite things about family sessions with toddlers is that you never know how the session is going to end up. The way in which I work is very family-led. And in the case of families with little ones, toddler-led. Anyone with a toddler can probably tell you that toddlers don’t like being told what to do and they like to play. Imagine how a photoshoot would go if I turned up and kept telling a child to stop playing and smile at the camera? They might do it once, maybe twice, but then they would probably quickly get frustrated and upset.
During my family photo sessions, we play games, we garden, we make funny noises, and have fun. Those smile-y photos come naturally and tantrums are kept to a minimum (though it’s perfectly okay if they happen).
For this mini family session with Becky and Rowan, we met in their back garden and do what any normal people in a garden do…we became gardeners. We watered plants, smelled flowers, pushed the wheelbarrow, and snagged some lovely solo pregnancy shots of Becky in between.
