There’s something I love about weddings that don’t try too hard to be anything other than what they are, and this celebration at Weston Park Museum was exactly that. Relaxed, warm, and full of family who’d travelled from all over the UK and Europe to be in the same room together. No stiff formalities, no fuss. Just genuine joy, and the mother of the bride in a pair of dungarees, which honestly set the tone for the whole evening.

Why Weston Park Museum Makes a Great Wedding Venue in Sheffield
Weston Park Museum is a beautiful choice for a wedding venue in Sheffield. It’s Sheffield’s first public museum and the grounds surrounding it, Sheffield first ever public park. The museum opened in 1875 and has since been an iconic landmark of Sheffield. It’s impressive architecture, Grade-II listed status, and historical significance to Sheffield as a space for the people, make it a truly unique place to host a wedding.
It’s also wonderfully central. If you have guests travelling from out of town, like C&C had on their day, it can make things so much easier for those arriving on public transport.
A Relaxed Celebration
This couple weren’t interested in a big, traditional wedding day. They chose to do things their own way with their favourite people and close family together in one space. Many of the family attending hailed from all over: Edinburg, Bristol, France…it was a lovely intimate, international affair. The dress code was for everyone to simply be comfortable, no-fuss, wear pretty much what you want, including the mother of the bride in dungarees, my personal favourite.
With family arriving from across the UK and Europe, there was a lovely warmth to the room from the moment the first guests walked through the doors of the museum.
Capturing Guests as They Arrived
One of my favourite things about weddings or celebrations of love is that you’re gathering all of the people that love and support you in one place and often times this might be the first time that you’ve seen them in months or even years. It’s a bit like a reunion of all your favourite people. I love photographing guests as they arrive and see you for the first time or see each other for the first time in a long time. The hugs, the laughter, and genuine joy from guests as they gather to celebrate you is really lovely to capture.
Group Photos Before the Meal
An important part of the day for this couple were the group photos. Having family travelling in from all over, they really wanted one big photo of everyone in attendance and the steps of Weston Park Museum make for the most incredible backdrop for group photos.
When planning for group photos, I always advise couples to make a list and to make that list a lot shorter than you think. Usually 5-6 combinations is plenty, especially for more intimate wedding celebrations. The longer the list, the longer you have to stand there smiling because remember, YOU are in all of them. It can also help to nominate a person to wrangle all of the people together. Last thing you need is Auntie Karen to wander off when she’s needed for photos.
Also decide how formal (or not) you want the photos to feel. For one of the group combinations, this couple decided for something a bit more unique to their personalities with everyone spread out, lounging about on the steps. It’s your day, you decide how things happen.
