A Sunny Wedding Day at Fulwood Church & Spicer Manor, Sheffield
Some wedding days make you a bit more teary eyed than others. Although, with how hot it was during a heatwave for this wedding, maybe it was sweat in my eyes? Too gross? Totally tears, then…totally tears.
Jokes aside, this wedding was an emotional one.
I was lucky to get to work alongside my pal, Kari Bellamy, as her second shooter on the day. We were doing both photo and video for this wedding, switching between the two. I focused primarily on video for this wedding, as well as documenting some key photo moments. Using video footage from both Kari and myself, I edited a final 4-minute video for the couple. It’s given me quite a soft spot for this wedding and I wanted to share a couple of highlights from the day, alongside a shorter video for a little teaser taste.
Ceremony at Christ Church Fulwood, Sheffield
The day started with a really emotional ceremony at Christ Church Fulwood. Even though we were in the middle of a heatwave and temperatures were at record high, everyone was in beautiful spirits, using programs and hymn books to fan themselves, and still sang their hearts out at every hymn.
As a photographer and videographer, I loved the freedom and flexibility that Christ Church Fulwood allowed us to roam throughout the ceremony to capture different angles and points of view throughout the ceremony without being obtrusive. Capturing a ceremony like this is such a privilege and makes a huge difference in the final delivery of our work. Really big up to Christ Church Fulwood for that.

Working alongside another photographer means we were able to capture still photos and video footage of this epic moment to deliver to the couple.
Getting Ready: Learning How to Tie a Tie
The beautiful thing about having two photographers is that you can have one covering the prep of one partner and the other covering the prep of the other. For me, I was on groom prep and a highlight of the day was watching this group of young men huddle around a phone watching a YouTube tutorial on how to tie a tie. Nothing like learning a new skill just before you get married.
The moment brought about nervous laughter, and smiles about the ridiculous-ness of the situation. The mother of the groom watched from a doorway, all smiles, while dad stepped in to try and help. It was a lovely moment.
Reception at Spicer Manor, Sheffield
The energy for the reception at Spicer Manor was polar opposite to the energy we had for the ceremony, but in the best way. While also filled with emotion, especially during the speeches, the reception at Spicer Manor was more filled with that gut-wrenching joyful laughter.
It was a properly hot, sunny day in a heatwave and the outdoor games lawn became a big focal point for guests. After the wedding breakfast, guests spilled out into the gardens to play games like the Jenga tower, which is always one of my personal favourites to film and photograph, especially mid-collapse.
More wedding guests arrived into the evening for the party once the sun started to dip. Spicer Manor handles that changeover flawlessly. From wedding breakfast table room to dance floor, staff make sure the wedding couple and guests have a smooth time.
The Best First Dance
It came as a surprise and a shock to everyone when the couple broke out into a beautifully choreographed first dance. Filled with dips and twirls, guests were losing their minds screaming and cheering them on. It was an absolute joy to film and photograph!
Why I Love Filming Weddings Like This
Between the emotional ceremony and the energetic fun of the reception, this wedding had it all and makes filming so heartwarming. As a second shooter on the day, my primary focus was on capturing video footage and later editing the video together. Working with footage from both myself and Kari, I put together a film that reflecting the whole story of the day, not just the highlights. We captured audio from the ceremony with the vows and later the speeches and wove the audio and video footage together in a way that was really quite emotional.
